Exporting joy and happiness as part of marketing

Fast Company magazine has an interesting article on Stanford marketing professor Jennifer Aaker, who teaches a course titled "Designing Happiness."

She argues that in today’s world, companies benefit from making prospects and customers happy, in addition to providing the usual quality products or services.

The article mentions how Coke did this by installing, at St. John’s University, during stressful exam times, a special vending machine that, as a gift to the unsuspecting customer, will produce a pizza (in addition to the drink). A video capturing the reactions of students was then posted on Youtube and went viral, generating 2 million views.
